Forecast discussion: A weak cold front is passing through Boston as we speak, but it only provided us with some extra cloud cover on Sunday afternoon. The clouds will burn off as we head into nightfall, and temperatures will be slightly warmer than previous evenings. We will see a warm up by the end of the week, but I am still trying to figure out when we will see rainfall.
For now, a strong high pressure system near Ohio will control our weather pattern for the next 24 hours. On Monday, there is the slight chance of a passing shower in the afternoon, thanks to another cold front passing through the region. However, we will return to partly cloudy skies by Tuesday evening.
The high will control our weather into Wednesday, and you will notice temperatures will be slowly increasing. This will be due to a warm front developing in the central U.S. with another low pressure system. We will see the warm front first, with temperatures rising into the upper 50’s to near 60 on Halloween afternoon. However, the models continue to disagree on when the precipitation will be coming through.
The American model continues to give us some very heavy precipitation by Thursday night, when the cold front comes through the region. The European model is also saying Thursday night, with the heaviest precipitation more on Friday afternoon. The United Kingdom model is beginning to agree more with the American model, but it feels the heaviest precipitation comes while the kids are trick-or-treating.
For now, I will keep some continuity from last night’s forecast. I believe the young ghosts and ghouls will be able to get their candy, and make it home in time before showers begin to fall. I still believe we will see some good rainfall Thursday night into Friday morning, before the system moves offshore by the late afternoon. We will see one more day of warm weather, but on the first day of Standard Time (we turn the clocks back one hour next Sunday morning at 2:00 a.m.), we will return to seasonable temperatures for early November.
