Forecast discussion: High pressure moving further into the Atlantic gave Boston beautiful weather on Monday, with mild temperatures as we head into the last 10 days of October. However, we will be seeing changes to the weather pattern, and colder air will remain over the east coast for a good period of time.
Our last mild day will be Tuesday, as temperatures will reach the upper 60’s. A cold front will be coming through in the afternoon, and will bring colder air from Canada down into Southern New England. There is the chance for a widely isolated shower during the afternoon. By tomorrow night, temperatures will fall into the lower 40’s.
As we head into Tuesday night, a low pressure system will be developing off the coast of Virginia. The low will intensify as it heads off the south coast of Rhode Island, and bring showers to light rain to the area by the afternoon.
All precipitation will move offshore by midnight, with skies beginning to clear. Overnight lows will fall into the middle 30’s, with possible widespread frost. We will have dry weather for Thursday and Friday, with temperatures in the lower 50’s during the day and lows approaching freezing.
The strong high will protect us until Saturday afternoon, with the ridge moving to our south. In its place will be a low pressure system coming quickly down from central Canada. It will provide us with a few rain showers Saturday night into Sunday morning. Temperatures will be warm enough to keep it as rain, and not freezing rain or snow flurries. We will see sunny skies right into next Monday.
Meanwhile, in the Atlantic, the twelfth named tropical storm of the year formed. Tropical Storm Lorenzo was centered at 28.9N 54.9W, or about 635 miles east-southeast of Bermuda. Maximum sustained winds are at 40 mph, and is moving north-northeast at 7 mph. The system will strengthen briefly, thanks to the warm waters. However, westerly wind shear will than weaken the system, and will become a remnant low within 5 days. The Atlantic hurricane season continues until November 1st.
