Forecast discussion: A very strong high pressure system moving out of Quebec, Canada gave Boston a beautiful sunny Monday, but it was cold. Northeast winds helped keep temperatures only in the lower 40’s for daytime highs. As we move through the week, temperatures will be slowly climbing, before returning to seasonable levels by the weekend.
By tomorrow, winds will shift from the northeast to the warmer south-southeast. Eventually, winds will turn to the southwest, which is a warm wind. Also, an upper level ridge will be set up over the eastern U.S. Ridges allow for warmer air from the south to travel further north. We will feel the difference on Wednesday, as temperatures climb to near 60 degrees.
The mild temperatures continue on Thursday, but the weather will begin to change. We will see increasing clouds Wednesday evening, ahead of a cold front. This front will bring some showers by Thursday morning, with heavier rainfall during the afternoon and evening. After the cold front passes early Friday morning, colder air from Canada will come back into New England.
We will feel the difference starting Thursday evening, as temperatures fall into the lower 40’s. Daytime highs will be in the upper 40’s to lower 50’s Friday and Saturday, but we will warm up to the middle 50’s on Sunday. However, a weak cold front will bring the risk of some passing showers, before a new high pressure system gives us sunny weather for Veteran’s Day.
