Forecast discussion: A cold front to our west helped bring showers and some light rain to Boston on Friday, along with some strong winds, due to a tight pressure gradient. However, the high to our east continued to move away, allowing for the gradient to weaken. This helped diminish winds by the late afternoon. The cold front will be hanging offshore this evening, and will help keep showers in the forecast for Saturday. However, I believe the Cape and Islands will see the most shower activity. The sun will return by the early afternoon, and temperatures will remain mild. Within the Boston area, skies will be partly to mostly sunny, as the Red Sox get on the duck boats for their parade at 10 a.m.
However, once a second cold front passes through tomorrow night, temperatures will be getting colder. A shot of colder air from Canada will move over New England, as our temperatures only reach the middle 40’s on Sunday and Monday. However, this cold weather will be short lived. An upper level ridge will begin to move over the east coast by mid-week. This will allow warmer air from the south to make its way into Southern New England.
By Wednesday, temperatures will be well above normal for early November, as we will see highs in the upper 50’s to middle 60’s Wednesday and Thursday. However, like all good things, it must come to an end. By Thursday, a strong cold front will move into New England, and will bring showers and light rain by Thursday night. At this time, the computer models disagree on the actual timing of the front. The showers will end by Friday morning, with colder air returning to the region.
