Forecast discussion: An area of low pressure moved offshore and into the Atlantic on Thursday. This low will still influence our weather this weekend, but we will not see any storms for the first time in three weeks.
The surface low will slowly head towards the northeast, and into Newfoundland. But, due to the size of the low, moisture from this system will continue to remain over Southern New England. We may see a scattered rain shower in Boston tonight, along with some patchy fog, which should develop before midnight. For the next few days, an upper level low to our west will keep moisture rotating over New England into Monday. So, we may see an occasional snow or rain shower, but I would not call this weekend a washout.
The best chance for any precipitation may be on Tuesday evening. A weak surface low will develop from a surface trough, and this low may help create a few snow showers Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. I am not expecting anything more than a dusting to an inch at this time. Temperatures during the day will be between the upper 30’s to lower 40’s, with lows in the upper 20’s to lower 30’s.
I will be watching the computer models carefully the next few days, as a possible coastal storm forms out of the Southeast U.S. Tuesday evening. At this time, the American model takes the low far out to sea. The United Kingdom model only goes out to six days, but it also pushes the low southeast and south of the Tennessee River Valley. But, at this time, next Thursday appears to be mostly sunny and dry.
