Boston weather forecast for Mar. 3, 2013 (Photos)

Forecast discussion: Boston did not see a significant storm on Saturday for the first time in three weeks. But, it was not a day full of sunshine, either. Despite the cloudy skies, it remained dry and seasonable. However, I will be watching a possible coastal storm for the middle of next week.

Right now, a low pressure system well northeast of the region continues to give us clouds with an occasional snow or rain shower. As we move through Sunday, little disturbances will continue to rotate into Southern New England, which could help produce a shower during the afternoon. Otherwise, it will remain cloudy, with seasonable temperatures.

As we move into the workweek, temperatures will slowly rise into the lower to middle 40’s, as we will see some sunshine peeking through the clouds. Overnight lows will be near freezing. But, I will be watching a low pressure system that is over Alberta, Canada over the next few days.

The computer models have the low moving through the eastern Rockies, while moving in a east-southeast direction. The low will continue to move down into the south central U.S., before moving straight east and into the Southeast U.S. by Tuesday morning. The low will begin to strengthen, thanks to an upper level low which will be north of the surface low.

Now, yesterday’s models had some precipitation from this system moving northward, and into Southern New England. However, it appears the computer models are agreeing that the low will remain south of our area. A high pressure system will actually create a blocking pattern, keeping the low from moving north. Instead, the low will be moving eastward, and out into the Atlantic. The good news is that the American, European, and United Kingdom models all agree on this scenario. However, my confidence is only fair at this point, because we are still four days away, and this scenario could change once again. By early Friday, skies will become mostly sunny, with highs slowly rising to the middle to upper 40’s.
