Forecast discussion: As of 4:30 p.m., central and southern Rhode Island is experiencing snow showers moving through the region. This will continue for the next couple of hours. I am not expecting any snowfall for Boston this evening. Thanks to the cloudy skies right now, temperatures this evening will not be as cold as Saturday night. Also, winds turning to the west will provide us with temperatures actually increasing through the overnight hours.

So, we will see the chance at some snow showers during the end of the morning commute, before seeing a mix of snowflakes and raindrops. Then, it will turn to just showers by the late morning. We will see high temperatures in the lower 40’s, but it will remain breezy. By tomorrow night, a new Arctic front will move through New England, helping to drop temperatures back into the lower teens.

The Arctic air will remain over us for the next couple of days, as temperatures struggle into the lower 20’s Tuesday and Wednesday, with lows in the lower teens. Some areas may fall into the upper single digits, especially north and west of Boston. By Thursday, temperatures will rebound, as the jet stream begins to straighten out. This will allow for some warmer air from the south to move back towards the north. A weak cold front will pass over us on Thursday night, and may produce some isolated snow showers in the evening. However, the American model is keeping the air drier than last night’s model run. Partly to mostly sunny skies is expected for the rest of Friday.

We will enter the next weekend with a slight chance at some snow showers Saturday night. The low over the Tennessee River Valley in last night’s model run is now further west, and high pressure ridging keeps the precipitation away from New England. This means we will see dry weather for next Sunday. Also, in New York, the Super Bowl looks cold, but dry. However, this is seven days away, so things may change.
