Forecast discussion: Here in Boston, we had a sunny, mild day, despite the strong northwest winds that some parts of the state had in the afternoon. Some afternoon wind gusts reached 40 mph. Well, we will see a carbon copy on Sunday, before another arctic cold front brings some of the coldest weather we have seen this winter season.
The strong winds will be due to the tightening of the pressure gradient. This is between a high pressure system well south of us, and a low pressure system moving into eastern Canada. The closer the two systems get to each other, the stronger the winds become. Although we will see dry weather tomorrow afternoon, the front will help lower our temperatures through the late afternoon. In fact, a Wind Advisory may be put in effect from the National Weather Service by the afternoon. Also, temperatures will be dropping during the Patriots game in Foxboro, with wind chills only in the teens for the game. So, please dress in layers if heading to the stadium for tailgating and/or viewing the game.
By Sunday night, lows will fall into the upper teens. For Martin Luther King Jr. Day, temperatures will not get above freezing during the day. Meanwhile, we will be watching a developing area of low pressure to our south Monday night. Although the computer models are agreeing on the solution that the low will stay far offshore, we may still see about 1-3 inches in the capital city, with about 3-5 inches along the eastern shore, as well as the Cape and Islands. However, check back in tomorrow, as I will continue to get new model information.
We will remain very cold during the overnight hours, as temperatures may fall into the single digits Tuesday and Wednesday night. We may have another chance at some accumulating snowfall for Friday, although the models keep the low well offshore. We may see light to moderate snowfall Friday night into Saturday afternoon. But, due to the fact that we are still six days away from the forecast time, my confidence is still quite low.

Monday night: Mostly cloudy with snow showers starting around 8 P.M. and a low of 17.
Tuesday: Cloudy with snow showers ending in the early afternoon and a high of 25.
