Forecast discussion: A weak area of high pressure gave Boston nice weather on Wednesday, although some high level clouds began to stream over us this afternoon. Although the high will not be influencing us after tonight, a weak cold front will pass through, although we will not be seeing any precipitation.
A low pressure system offshore of North Carolina will remain offshore, so we will see partly to mostly sunny skies Thursday, although a passing shower is possible during the afternoon. We may see a passing rain or snow shower tomorrow night, as the low continues to trek towards Nova Scotia. We will see limited sunshine on Friday, as we await a cold front that will bring passing snow and rain showers Friday night into Saturday. However, no snowfall accumulation is expected.
The front will help bring some colder air from Canada into New England. Temperatures will be below normal to normal for early next week. A quick moving system will bring the chance for some light snow Sunday morning, but the snow will end before early Monday morning. Snowfall will be light, so I am not expecting anything significant.
The holiday and Tuesday will be dry. As I look into the long range part of the computer models, the American model wants to develop a coastal low which begins to strengthen as it moves offshore of the New Jersey coastline. At this time, the low appears to be far enough to the east that we will miss most of the precipitation. But, I want to keep it in the forecast, as this could bring some decent snowfall by the middle of next week. My overall confidence in next Wednesday’s forecast is low, because the other models so not show a strong low off the coastline.
