Forecast discussion: Despite the heavy rain on Saturday, the weekend was not that bad. Our temperatures were well above normal on Saturday as Logan Airport recorded a high of 58 degrees. Despite the heavy rain, Boston only received a little over a half-inch of rainfall, as the showers ended before dawn on Sunday. High pressure ridging from the south gave us partly sunny conditions for most of Sunday, and our high temperature was only 47 degrees.

High temperature forecast for January 13, 2014

This high will give us another dry day on Monday, and temperatures will slowly rise to the upper 40’s in the capital city. A cold front moving into the central U.S. will provide us with some isolated showers early Tuesday morning. We will see showers with light rain by the afternoon. The heavier rainfall will be from a secondary low along the front. It will swing to the northeast, as the primary low remains over the Great Lakes. The showers may end as snow showers, as colder air behind the front moves over the area.

By Wednesday, the secondary low over the Great Lakes will move eastward, and we may see some scattered showers by Wednesday night. Again, the precipitation may end as snow showers, but all precipitation will end by Thursday. A weak high pressure system will give us dry weather for Thursday and most of Friday. By Friday afternoon, an Arctic front will move through New England. The front may bring some snow showers by early Friday evening. A secondary front may bring another round of snow showers Saturday night, but ending early Sunday morning. A new high pressure system will bring mostly sunny skies next Sunday. The colder air will remain over us into early next week.
