Boston weather forecast for Jan. 13, 2013 (Photos)

Forecast discussion: An area of low pressure off the Mid-Atlantic coastline will keep cloudy skies and some patchy drizzle for Boston this evening. We may also see some dense patchy fog during the overnight, so please take precaution if you have to drive this evening. Warmer air will move into New England on Sunday, as a warm front moves through the region later this evening. Temperatures will be quite mild on Sunday, as highs reach the lower 50’s. If we see any sunshine in the afternoon, temperatures could climb into the middle 50’s. So, it will be mild if you are heading to Foxboro for the Patriots playoff game tomorrow evening.

As we move into late Sunday night, the cold front associated with a low pressure system will begin to move through Southern New England on Monday. We will see an end to the mild weather by Monday afternoon. Temperatures will still reach the lower 50’s by the early afternoon, before colder air behind the front begins to lower our temperatures. Also, we will see some possible snow showers mixing with some sleet Monday night, as there will be some moisture along the frontal boundary. The computer models have been in disagreement the last few days. The American model feels a high pressure ridge will protect us from any precipitation. However, the European model has been more consistent with us seeing the precipitation on Tuesday, slowly changing over to rain showers by late Tuesday morning. All precipitation will end by Tuesday afternoon, with partial clearing.

We will see a mix of clouds and sunshine on Wednesday, with temperatures remaining in the lower 40’s during the daytime. By Thursday, there is the chance we could see another quick moving cold front move into Southern New England. We would see snow showers change to rain showers by the late morning. For next weekend, a cold pool of air would move into the eastern U.S., as our high temperatures will only reach the lower to middle 30’s.
