Boston weather forecast for Jan. 11, 2013 (Photos)

Forecast discussion: Here in Boston, we had a delightful Thursday, despite a strong northwest wind, thanks in part to a very strong center of high pressure over northern New York at the moment. The high will begin to move to our east by tomorrow morning, allowing us to see some morning sunshine.

But, we will be seeing the sun disappear behind increasing clouds as we move into the late morning and early afternoon on Friday. The clouds will be from a warm front that will remain to our south and east. We will begin to see a few showers during the evening commute, with scattered showers and light rain through the overnight hours Friday night. We will see some drizzle and passing showers on Saturday morning, before the precipitation tapers off. But, we will remain mostly cloudy as we enter Sunday. However, warmer air will move over New England, as we could see highs in the middle 50’s before the end of the day.

As we begin the new workweek on Monday, we will be watching an area of low pressure develop over the Southeast U.S. Due to a very strong upper level trough in the middle of the country, any developing low pressure systems will come out of this region. We will see a frontal boundary remain along the eastern coastline into the middle of next week. A series of weak low pressure systems will begin on Monday, and it will help bring another round of rain showers around the late morning. As we progress into Tuesday, a second low will form along the front, helping to bring a stronger round of precipitation. At this time, the computer models keep enough warm air over us that the precipitation remains as rain. However, if the low moves more to the east, colder air behind the front may move into Southern New England. This would create a possible wintry mix during the evening hours for Monday and part of Tuesday evening. We will see the end of our mild weather by Tuesday evening, as that upper level trough begins to move over the eastern U.S. High pressure will help clear our skies for Wednesday and Thursday, but temperatures return to more seasonable, reaching the upper 30’s to lower 40’s for daytime highs.
