Forecast discussion: In Boston today, we received 1.24 inches of rainfall since about 6 a.m. this morning. Over the next couple of days, we will see the chance for more precipitation, especially on Friday.
For now, the low pressure system that brought that much rain is currently over western New York. As the low slowly moves eastward, we will see a little bit of a dry slot within this system. Much of the moisture will remain to our north or to our northwest. However, we may still see an occasional shower or some drizzle on Thursday, with mild temperatures.
By Thursday night, some snow showers may move into Southern New England. Much of this moisture will come from lake effect snow from the Great Lakes. We may see a dusting to an inch on Friday, before temperatures become too warm Friday afternoon. Temperatures will fall below freezing on Friday night.
As we move into the weekend, it appears we will break our streak of three weeks with either rain or snow. However, the low will continue to bring some weak lake effect snow showers towards southern New England. There is the chance for some brief snow showers Saturday night, before we see drier air move over us on Sunday.
We will continue to see dry weather through the start of the workweek, before a weak area of low pressure brings the chance for some afternoon showers for next Wednesday. Temperatures will be in the middle 30’s to lower 40’s during the day, with temperatures in the middle to upper 20’s at night.
