Forecast discussion: High pressure over the Southeast U.S. gave Boston a sunny Wednesday. Temperatures were slightly warmer, and milder air will be arriving for the weekend. But, the sunshine will not be part of that weather forecast.

The sun will be around for Thursday, as the high pressure ridge over us continues to give us dry weather. Temperatures will actually go above freezing, as we reach the upper 30’s. We will see a few clouds tomorrow night, as the ridge slowly breaks down. But, temperatures will remain above freezing, so there will be some slight melting of any snow and ice.

As we go into Friday, we will have a cold front developing in the central U.S. The warm front ahead of the low will move over Southern New England first, helping to create a few showers by Friday evening. Temperatures will stay well above freezing, and we may reach the upper 40’s by Saturday. By this time, the cold front will move towards the Great Lakes, and we will see an increased rainfall amount. Showers and light to moderate rain is possible on Sunday, as the warm front moves into Northern New England. Temperatures will not be as warm as other cities inland, due to some easterly winds off of the ocean.

By Monday arrives, the cold front will be moving through the area. We will see temperatures in the upper 40’s before the front brings colder air into Monday night. At this time, a strong high pressure system will bring dry weather for Christmas Eve and Day. We will return to seasonable temperatures for the end of December.
