Forecast discussion: An area of low pressure remained over parts of eastern Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts Tuesday morning. Some areas like New Bedford and Fall River received as much as 2 and a half inches of rain from this low. The low has moved offshore, taking the heaviest rainfall with it. Despite the sunshine outside this late Tuesday afternoon, the unsettled weather will continue for another day.
A weak frontal boundary now passing over the Great Lakes will move over Southern New England tomorrow. There will be the chance for some off and on showers and a possible thunderstorm as more kids head back to school on Wednesday. A weak cold front will pass through Wednesday evening, before moving offshore on Thursday. I expect dry weather on Thursday, although a passing shower will not be out of the question.
By Friday, we will start the long holiday weekend with good weather. A weak high pressure ridge will give us more clouds than sun on Friday, but drier will move over us by Friday night. The best day of the weekend appears to be on Saturday, with mostly sunny skies. A warm front to our west will help bring increasing clouds by Sunday afternoon. Right now, it appears the computer models agree on a cold front coming down from Canada, providing us with a wet day for Labor Day. We will return to school and the workweek with partly sunny skies on Tuesday.
Right now, I do not expect any type of late summer warm up, as temperatures remain in the upper 70’s to lower 80’s.
