Forecast discussion: A strong high pressure system currently centered over eastern New York gave Boston gorgeous weather on Saturday. It was a day you wish you could put into a bottle and open it up again during a dreary day. We will see another beautiful day on Sunday, before we run into some unsettled weather as we move through the workweek.
The high will slowly move towards the Atlantic Sunday evening, and will continue to protect us into Monday afternoon. The high pressure ridge will begin to lose its influence as a warm front in the Central Plains moves through the Northeast U.S. We will be seeing increasing clouds through the afternoon, with some scattered showers and thunderstorms by the end of the evening commute. The activity will persist off and on through Tuesday evening. There will be a very brief period of dry weather until a new low pressure system moves over the east coast early Wednesday morning. The precipitation will be more isolated, as the new low pressure system will actually be over northern New England.
As we head into Wednesday evening, many computer models disagree on how we receive more precipitation in Thursday’s forecast. The American model believes we will see some upper level dynamics come out of the Mid-Atlantic, and move northeast into Southern New England. This will help create scattered showers and thunderstorms by the early afternoon. The European model feels the precipitation will be along a cold front that will come through on Thursday. At the moment, it appears the American model has a better forecast, as it will be the low’s center that helps create the precipitation. The rainfall will continue into early Friday morning, before the cold front moves offshore.
As we head into the last unofficial weekend of the summer, high pressure will once again bring comfortable temperatures and low humidity. Looking a little more ahead, Sunday looks to be beautiful, but a cold front appears to bring some precipitation by Labor Day afternoon.
