Forecast discussion: A very strong high pressure system continues to keep Boston under dry weather. Despite some mostly cloudy skies by the early afternoon, Monday was a nice day, with comfortable temperatures and low humidity. However, we will be returning to the dog days of August, starting Tuesday.
Winds will slowly change to the southwest, which is a warm wind direction. Also, we will see some moisture return to Southern New England, thanks to the Gulf of Mexico. High temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday will be near 90 degrees in some areas. However, I do not expect any heat advisories to be in effect, due to the lower dewpoint temperatures. Still, it will be uncomfortable if you have to work outside.
By Thursday, a cold front coming down from Canada will reach New England. It will help create some scattered showers and thunderstorms by mid-afternoon, and continue into early Friday morning. We should see the last few raindrops during the start of the morning commute, with clearing skies allowing for bright sunshine by Friday afternoon. Cooler air behind the front will return temperatures to the upper 70’s to lower 80’s.
The next chance for any precipitation will be by Monday night. The new high will be moving offshore, allowing for a new cold front to come through the eastern U.S. We may see a few showers late Monday night, before continuing into early Tuesday. At this time, the American model is the only model suggesting any precipitation. The European model actually has a dry front moving through, meaning cloudy skies with just an isolated shower possible.
Finally, the Atlantic Ocean is quiet today, as there are no developmental areas for tropical systems. The only possible tropical that could be created will come off the west coast of Mexico, and move towards Baja California by early next week.
