Forecast discussion: A few weeks ago, we wondered if we would ever see spring like temperatures. For the next few days in Boston, temperatures will feel more like late May then early April.
The extremely warm air will be coming from southwest winds, along with a frontal boundary that will stay to our north and west. The frontal boundary will set up and become stationary. There may be a possible shower or thunderstorm by Monday night, as the frontal boundary slowly moves closer to Southern New England. However, I do not expect any precipitation this afternoon, especially when the Boston Red Sox have their first game at Fenway Park. We will see well above average temperatures tomorrow and Tuesday, as highs could reach 70 by Tuesday afternoon. By Tuesday night, the stationary front will become a warm front, as it moves towards the north.
As the front moves northward, this will allow for a low pressure system setting up in the south central U.S. to move eastward. We will have the chance to see heavier rainfall by Thursday and Friday, due to the cold front associated with this low. The front will be slow moving, and the front will have the chance to pick up more moisture as it moves closer to the east coast. We may see heavy rain on Friday, as the American model has been very consistent with this forecast for the last few days. The European and United Kingdom models is beginning to see more upper level moisture, which means the models are increasing its precipitation forecast.
The cold front will move offshore by Friday night. Our temperatures will slowly return to what we should be seeing for this time of the year. After seeing the lower 60’s for Wednesday, temperatures will lower towards the lower to middle 50’s for our next weekend. This will be due to colder air returning from the north, as a high pressure system from Canada slowly moves southeast towards the east coast.
