Metro Boston, North Shore and Metro West: High pressure dominates our weather through this weekend and into the start of next week. It will also suppress an area of rain to our south through the weekend. The high moves offshore by Tuesday and this opens the door for low pressure to approach from the west and south. By Wednesday low pressure consolidates over New England bringing a period of rain.

The pattern continues to support near or slightly below normal temperatures through this outlook period. Overnight temperatures this weekend will be quite cool for this time of year, especially through the interior valleys. Although temperatures gradually climb early next week they will bounce back below normal by Wednesday.

This weekend looks superb for outdoor activities. Expect lots of sunshine both days, although fair weather clouds build in each afternoon. Cool nights and comfortably mild days with continued low humidity is not typical for this time of year but that is what to expect for the upcoming weekend. Light winds will likely promote a sea breeze along the coast, making it a touch cooler on the beaches. High temperatures both days generally 78 to 84 degrees, coolest on the shore. The overnight lows a delightful 54 to 60, around 62 in Boston.

On Monday conditions remain pretty much the same. Sunshine prevails. Temperatures climb a few degrees higher, between 80 and 86, coolest on the shore where a sea breeze is likely once again. Overnight lows on Monday night mainly 58 to 64 degrees under fair skies.

Tuesday begins to bring about some changes in the atmosphere. It will become more humid and clouds are on the increase. Showers could arrive at night with a wet day probable on Wednesday along with cool temperatures. Highs Tuesday back in the 80s, cooling into the 70s Wednesday. Lows Tuesday night stay in the 60s.

Showers may linger into Thursday with drier air arriving by Friday. Temperatures hanging just below normal in the mid 70s to near 80.

North Shore beach outlook:

Saturday: Mostly sunny and pleasant. High temperatures 76 to 80 degrees, coolest Cape Ann northward to Salisbury. Light winds, turning onshore 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Water temperatures in the upper 60s. UV Index high at about 8. Surf only 1 to 2 feet. High tide late in the morning.

Saturday evening: Mainly clear and cool. Temperatures falling to near 70 by sunset. Light and variable winds about 5 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny with a few afternoon clouds possible. Highs 76 to 80. Light onshore breeze of less than 10 mph.
