Boston weather: Fair skies and unseasonably cold through the weekend (Photos)

After a bit of light snow last night more cold air will track across southern New England over the weekend, although not as cold as recent days. Nevertheless, we start out with temperatures around 10 degrees at sunrise this morning. Skies should be mostly sunny to partly cloudy throughout the day. The high temperatures top out in the low 20s, so another day of well below average temperatures can be expected. Gusty northwest winds to near 30 mph at times will bring wind chills down to the single digits at times later today.

With high pressure building into the region tonight we will have diminishing winds after the evening hours, but still feisty at times. A mostly clear sky prevails and temperatures will tumble to around 10 on the coast to the single digits inland. Northwest winds diminish to 10 to 15 mph later at night.

Sunshine rules the skies on Sunday, however temperatures do not respond much as highs will only reach about 25 degrees. Not as much wind expected as speeds generally range from 10 to 20 mph. Overall it will be a much more comfortable day from those we have experienced this past week. Fair skies continue into Sunday night. Still cold, but lows will range a few degrees higher as they fall to 10 to 15 degrees, coldest inland.

High pressure begins to slide offshore as a warm front approaches. This will bring increasing clouds on Monday and there is the possibility of light snow breaking out later Monday and Monday night ahead of the front. Highs on Monday will actually break 30 degrees around here, with most seeing highs settling into the low 30s. Overnight lows will be milder from those of the past week, with a range of 25 to 30 degrees. There is a possibility of a light accumulating snowfall during the night, with precipitation changing to a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain before the warm front punches through Tuesday.

The trend toward milder temperatures continues for Tuesday and Wednesday. Along with the milder readings comes plenty of clouds and a chance of showers from time to time. Highs generally in the 40s both days and lows in the mid to upper 30s. Quite a change from the temperatures of the past week. Wednesday presents the best chance for showers, ahead of a cold front that will move through later in the day. Unfortunately, the warmth does not last all that long as cold air returns by late next week as we get set to welcome February.
