Metro Boston, North Shore and Metro West: Temperatures this Saturday morning are starting out in the upper 50s to low 60s with a range from partly to mostly cloudy skies in the metro Boston area and points north and west. Although there will be more clouds around today than there were on Friday the day will be pleasant with temperatures running cooler than normal for mid July. We will have an onshore breeze with us through the weekend that will maintain these cooler temperatures, especially along the coastal plain.
The weather map Saturday morning features high pressure centered over New England. This system will slowly slide offshore over the weekend but should maintain dry conditions locally. Meanwhile, showers and thunderstorms extend from Pennsylvania and the Ohio Valley all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. Low pressure is located in the Tennessee Valley with a frontal boundary extending across the mid-Atlantic coast to several hundred miles off Nantucket. There is also an area of showers across the North Carolina coast this morning extending into the open waters.
The showers west of us will stay west of our area as they push through New York State and extreme western New England. Low pressure will ripple along the frontal boundary from the mid-Atlantic and move southeast of Nantucket during Sunday. We mentioned over the last two days that this system could bring plenty of clouds to the area on Sunday and this is looking more likely now. It may also dampen the second half of the weekend over Cape Cod with a few showers on Sunday.
Once the low moves away later on Sunday we return to sunny skies and pleasant temperatures Monday as high pressure returns. Then, turn up the heat for Tuesday and Wednesday as some of you across the interior approach, perhaps even exceed, 90 degrees on Wednesday.
