Forecast discussion: A very strong ridge of high pressure stayed over Boston for all of Friday. The result was an almost perfect day of bright sunshine, low humidity, and seasonable temperatures. We received a high of 77 degrees at Logan Airport, which is very seasonable for this time of the year. The only “fly in the ointment” was the strong west and northwest winds.
The good news is this strong ridge will remain steadfast over Southern New England. So, we can expect the same kind of weather for the next few days. The weather will feel like a hot new song on the radio, which everyone would be requesting to hear again and again. Temperatures during the day may slowly climb to near 80 by Monday, with the slight chance of a sea breeze developing during the weekend afternoons along the shore. So if you have or made any outdoor plans, go out and enjoy them.
As we head into Wednesday, our perfect weather will come to an end. A slow moving cold front will work its way towards Southern New England. At this time, the computer models disagree on the speed of the front. The American and United Kingdom models have the front giving us some showers and possible thunderstorms starting Wednesday afternoon. However, the American model also keeps the front stalled through Thursday, before the front pulls away into the Atlantic by late Thursday night. The European model moves the front through the area by Thursday afternoon, with clearing skies by Thursday night.
For now, I will go with the American model’s forecast, as the model has been a little more consistent with the scenario than the European. However, I would not be surprised if I have to change the timing of the precipitation. I am sure the models will get a better handle on the situation by Sunday afternoon’s model run.
