Metro Boston, North Shore and western suburbs: After a three day holiday weekend of considerable cloudiness, scattered showers and thunderstorms we wake Tuesday morning to sunshine as most are heading back to work and school. Tuesday will be the last of a stretch of humid days with one more round of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon before conditions finally begin to improve tonight.
A cold front is slowly making progress eastward and should reach the coast by this evening. Ahead of the front it stays humid and warm with showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon. There is a chance of a few strong to severe storms breaking out with heavy rain, gusty winds, frequent lightning and hail, so do keep an eye to the sky during the afternoon as these storms can pop up very quickly. The activity winds down this evening and overnight the drier, cooler and comfortable air mass behind the front will overspread our area and this sets the stage for a beautiful Wednesday.
A much more comfortable day on Wednesday with lowering humidity and pleasant temperatures. A few afternoon clouds, otherwise a mainly sunny day.
Another cold front will pass through here on Thursday, bringing a reinforcing push of cooler air that will be with us into the start of the weekend. A period of cloudiness is likely as the front approaches and moves through, with a remote chance of an isolated shower. Low temperatures will fall into the 40s throughout many of the suburbs overnight as the reinforcing cool air mass takes hold.
When you wake Friday morning it will feel like Fall. Unseasonably cool temperatures, low humidity and sunshine will make for a very pleasant day overall with a touch of early fall in the air. Some communities may struggle to get out of the upper 60s both Thursday and Friday.
