Forecast discussion: We started Saturday with clouds and showers during the early morning. However, once the cold front passed, high pressure over the Ohio River Valley brought Boston bright sunshine under beautiful blue skies. This trend will continue into the early part of the week, with the rest of the week looking rather unsettled.
The high will slowly drift to the southeast, giving us fair skies, especially on Sunday morning. We may see some high and mid-level clouds during the afternoon. There is still a little bit of upper level dynamics in the atmosphere to create a widely isolated shower or thunderstorm, especially during the mid-afternoon. However, I would not cancel any outdoor plans, because the showers will only last for a few minutes.
As we move into Monday, the high will continue to five us some dry weather. However, the jet stream will move right over the Great Lakes. It will pick up some moisture from this area, and move it over our region. So, we will see more clouds than sunshine on Monday and Tuesday. More moisture will arrive by Tuesday afternoon, so there is the risk for some showers by late Tuesday afternoon.
As we move into the middle of the week, the weather pattern gets a little more unsettled. A new low pressure system will come out of the Great Lakes and bring some widespread showers by Wednesday morning. A series of low pressure systems will then follow the jet stream, moving west to east. A low pressure system will move south of us on Thursday, but still producing some scattered showers. By Friday, a secondary low behind the main low will bring the chance of some moderate rain, as this low will be stationary over eastern New York. The low will slowly move offshore by late Saturday afternoon. Showers will eventually end by the early evening. Temperatures will be slightly below to seasonable for the entire week.
