Boston weather: A few showers Tuesday morning, then dry, windy weather

Forecast discussion: After a long holiday weekend, Boston continued its streak of good weather as there was a little sunshine to begin Wednesday morning. However, due to a slight sea breeze, the capital city is seeing mostly cloudy skies, according to the observations at Logan Airport. Despite the extra clouds, Boston reached a high of 73 degrees today. We will see overcast skies by tonight, with some rainfall expected.

Currently, the ridge is starting to weaken as a cold front moves into Southern New England. Radar imagery shows showers in western and central Massachusetts and western Connecticut. They should arrive by 11 p.m. and some isolated areas could see up to a half-inch of rainfall. There may even be an isolated thunderstorm passing through the state. But, the precipitation will come to an end by the end of the morning commute on Wednesday. Cooler, drier air will arrive behind the front, and with the high building in, winds will be quite strong.

The windy conditions will continue into Thursday, and the constant northwest winds will keep temperatures in the upper 50’s. By Friday night, a new cold front will bring increasing clouds and some isolated showers. The front will stall just offshore of New England, so there will be off and on shower activity on Saturday. So, do not cancel any outdoor activities, because right now the shower activity looks widely isolated.

By early Sunday morning, the main low will push off into Nova Scotia, allowing a new high pressure ridge to build over New England. The high will give us mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will be slowly rising into the lower 60’s as we reach next Tuesday.
