Forecast discussion: Despite a high pressure system over the state of Michigan, Boston saw grey skies and even some showers. The clouds cover and showers were due to a weak disturbance moving into northern New England. It is helping to trigger showers across eastern Massachusetts at the moment. This will continue into the overnight.
Despite the high pressure center moving slowly to the east, the disturbance will slowly move further south. We will continue to see grey skies and peeks of sunshine. However, the disturbance may create some isolated showers and a possible thunderstorm, especially in the middle of the afternoon. Any thunderstorms may be strong enough to produce some small hail and gusty winds. The disturbance will finally move offshore late Sunday night, and the high will dominate our weather on Memorial Day.
The holiday looks fantastic, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures will reach the lower 80’s. This will make for the perfect cookout or parade. But, as we head into the evening, we will begin to see increasing clouds. A cold front will be moving over the region, and we will see the risk of showers and thunderstorms through the early afternoon into the late evening. Our warm temperatures on Monday will return to slightly below seasonable temperatures on Tuesday.
As we head into Tuesday night, we are going to feel some very cold temperatures for the last week of May. Low temperatures may fall into the lower 50’s in some spots, with high temperatures in the middle 60’s on Wednesday. Temperatures will warm up into the upper 60’s to lower 70’s on Thursday.
As we head into the weekend, a new cold front will slowly work its way into Southern New England. We should see showers arrive by the late morning on Friday, The front will be moving through rather quickly, as the front moves offshore by the early part of next Saturday morning. A new high pressure system will bring back mostly sunny skies during the daytime.
