Forecast discussion: We seem to be stuck in a familiar weather pattern the last few days over Boston. We start the day with mostly sunny skies, but daytime heating eventually helps to produce mostly cloudy skies by the mid-afternoon. However, as we approached sunset, the clouds began to dissipate, as the daytime heating came to an end.

High temperature forecast for May 6, 2014

This pattern will continue as we move into Tuesday. There is the chance of a widely isolated shower passing through, especially during the afternoon. Otherwise, dry weather will continue. High pressure over eastern Canada will continue to control the weather pattern through the middle of the week.

The computer models continue to show some unsettled weather going into Thursday. A warm front now located from eastern Kansas to eastern Kentucky will ever so slowly move to the north. The American model continues to show some showers north of the front passing through Rhode Island early Thursday morning. We will continue to see scattered showers pass through into Friday. The front will pass to our north, so we will have a brief period of dry weather. However, once the cold front moves east, we will see steadier shower activity around midnight early Saturday morning. The cold front will move very slowly, so we will see scattered showers into Sunday night.

A weak high pressure ridge will give us a little sunshine next Monday, until a new cold front brings the chance for more showers Monday evening. You will notice in the extended period that temperatures will rise into the upper 60’s to near 70 degrees. Overnight lows will be mild, thanks mostly to cloudy skies, which will keep in a lot of the daytime heating.
