Forecast discussion: A strong high pressure system brought a picture perfect day of warm sunshine and low humidity into eastern Massachusetts. Temperatures, however, were a little cool for this time of the year, as highs only reached into the lower 70’s. As we move into the holiday weekend, we will see one more good day of weather, than we will see increased humidity and the threat of some showers.
The high will begin to move offshore by tomorrow night, and our winds will turn to the south-southwest. This will help bring warmer air into New England, as well as help bring more moisture into our atmosphere. We may see some patchy fog in places Saturday night, and you may want to use your fans and air conditioners to sleep. A warm front will begin to move over New England, helping to not only raise the dewpoint, but temperatures as well.
As we head into the last day in August, the warm front will help raise our high temperatures into the lower to middle 80’s on Sunday. But, the front will also help trigger some scattered showers and even an isolated thunderstorm by the late afternoon. The best chance for precipitation will be late Sunday night into Labor Day. The cold front will begin to push through on Tuesday. The front may create some showers and thunderstorms by the afternoon.
High pressure will return over New England to bring us partly to mostly sunny skies on Wednesday and Thursday. But, the next cold front on next Friday will bring the risk of some morning showers, before another round of showers return by the mid-afternoon. However, my confidence in the forecast after Thursday is low. The European model believes the high will linger a little longer, allowing us to see drier weather next Friday.
