On tonight's episode of "Boston's Finest," the episode opens with the narrator, Donnie Wahlberg telling the viewers how Boston, in the summer has a way of brewing up crime. As the Fugitive Unit is on patrol, they are looking for Anthony Howard, who is wanted on gun charges. Where firearms are involved, the unit takes no chances, as the team covers every exit. As they knock on the door, he attempts to escape through the back door and is apprehended.
No rest for the Fugitive Unit on this day, as they are right back to work in the meeting room being briefed on the latest information about an armed robbery.
In Roxbury, Manny Canuto and D Araujo of the Gang Unit are watching for suspicious activity when they get a report of shots fired. As they rush to the scene, the man is being taken in the ambulance after being shot in the lower back. The team finds six shell casings. In broad daylight, this could only be gang-related. The victim does not know who shot him, but gang members are usually uncooperative because they prefer retaliation on their own.
In Hyde Park, Officer Jennifer Penton is on patrol alone. She spots a panhandler named Malika, who tells her that she recently got kicked out of her home, and she is trying to get some money as she shakes her coffee cup at traffic stopped for a light. Immediately, this brings up thoughts of her sister, who last season she helped get into rehab. Jenn parks the car and starts talking to her. She tells her that she has been clean for a long time, but is pregnant. She has a sweet personality, and Jenn urges her to get an ID, because without one, she can get no services from the community. Jenn is going to visit her sister, Melissa this weekend. It has been four months since they saw each other, and she is still in rehab.
The Fugitive Unit is in Charleston looking for Omar Washington and his accomplice, who has yet to be identified. Both are suspected of the armed robbery and pistol whipping of a female victim. It is suspected they are in a 2005 black Durango. As they spot the vehicle, a woman, believed to be Omar's girlfriend is driving. They hope that she will lead them to the suspect. She was carrying a black duffel bag, and they believe it could be clothing for him or them. As she parks near Boston Children’s Hospital, Winston DeLeon spots her going into the facility, but she does not have the duffel with her. They are aware that Omar has a spare set of keys for the vehicle, and could very well take it from where it is parked. After a while, they abandon the stakeout because they do not know how long she will be there.
As Jenn is driving where she met Malika, another panhandler is in the same location. She asks if he had seen her? He did not see her that day, but Jenn holds out hope that she got her ID and is getting help.
D and Manny are patrolling the area where they suspect retaliation. They see a man named Rooney Hendricks walking down the street and know that his gang could be involved in the retaliation, as they stop to speak with him, he raises his arms, but they are not arresting him, just telling him and his gang to find something else to do that is non-violent.
When a call comes in of a shooting in neighboring Brookline, the police believe the suspect headed to Boston. As they spot the car, he pulls into his driveway, and the police apprehend him immediately. Now they go back to look for Omar Washington.
As Jenn pulls over a white pickup truck, two females are in the car, and she calls for backup. Too many pieces of the puzzle do not add up, and the driver is taken away in handcuffs.
As the hunt for Omar is once again put on hold, the officers rush to an address where they hear that two officers were shot. The address is well-known to the gang unit, especially Manny and D. One of the suspects is dead; his name is Rooney Hendricks, but the other has escaped on foot. Thankfully, the officers will survive.
The Fugitive Unit is back out looking for Omar and his accomplice. Neither firearm from the shooting has been recovered, so they must be extra vigilant and suspect both are armed. They will focus on Omar’s mother’s home and the black Durango belonging to his girlfriend. After checking the mother’s house, there is no sign of him, but they receive information that he sometimes stays with a man nicknamed Meats.
Jenn found Malika, but she did not get the ID yet. Jenn knows that if they are not ready for help, there is little that can be done.
Detective Michelle Williams is going through every database to find the guy named Meats, and what his real name might be. She came across an address in Cambridge. Michelle and Brian Albert are headed to the girlfriend’s house and Winston DeLeon and Joe Marrero head to Cambridge.
Jenn is apprehensive about the meeting with her sister. She has not seen her in a while, and hopes she is doing well. When they spotted each other, it was like she never left. Melissa looked very good, and Jenn said they now looked like twins again. She told her sister that she will never to go back to doing drugs.
As Winston and Joe spot a black Durango, the description of the guy is positive and Omar is now off the streets. Michelle’s hard work looking for the address paid off.
Manny and D are in a playground with several other policemen meeting with kids from the area. As they play basketball together, they hope they can keep these kids away from the gangs and violence that roam the streets.
In Florida, Jenn and Melissa had a wonderful day together. She will remain in Florida and continue her treatment. Jenn heads home to her colleagues who do the job they love and live each day with hope for a better future for the city and the people they love.
