One of Boston's favorite bands, Farrenheit, will come together for their annual beach front concert on Friday night, August 22, 2014 at the Blue Ocean Music Hall, 4 Ocean Front North in Salisbury. On Saturday, August 23, 2014 Willie "Loco" Alexander, a singer song writer and artist was once part of Lou Reed's Velvet Underground back in 1971 when the band consisted of Doug Yule on vocals and guitar, Walter Powers on bass, Maureen Tucker on drums and Alexander on keyboards and vocals. Alexander will be performing at WMFO - 91.5 FM, Curtis Hall, 474 Boston Ave. in Medford from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Back at Hajjar's on Saturday, where they'll be rocking the roof off, it's the Doubleshot Boston Band! Hajjar's is located at 969 Washington Street in Weymouth and feature many of the most popular bands in the area. Doubleshot Boston is a hard rock cover band and I say they rock it louder. On Sunday, August 24, 2014, it is the end of the season for our Rock and Blues Concert Series. If you haven't been out on a boat in Boston Harbor this summer, now is your chance. And what better way than to listen to some great bands, enjoy a few cocktails and bask in the sun on deck.
The Barnstar Band, brainchild of Zack Hickman, headlines the finale of the 2014 Rock and Blues Cruise Concert Series. The band are regulars at Club Passim and make bluegrass music for people who hate bluegrass. The band features some of the top singers and pickers in modern American roots music and only do a few shows a year with all of the band members working on their own side projects. Hickman is coming back from being on the road with well-known singer/songwriter Ray Lamontagne to play with his fellow Barnstar bandmates Mark Erelli, Charlie Rose and father-son combination Jake and Taylor Armerding. Joining Barnstar will be special guest and rising star Dietrich Strause.
The Rock and Blues Concert Cruises sail aboard the Provincetown II operated by the Bay State Cruise Company out of the World Trade Center Pier. Boarding begins at 2:00 p.m. The cruise sails from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Advance tickets may be purchased online at: www.rockandbluescruise.com.
