Just in time for that comfort food attack that hits you about this time of year, Boston Market is highlighting the healthier eating options now available at the popular chain's 490 locations.
Various Boston Market locations, including the four in the immediate San Jose area may not exactly be fitness eating, but the menu does fill a need when you want some chicken, beef or turkey and don't want to go to the hassle of cooking a home-style meal, The price is right, the service is fast, and though the menu won't please people trying to eat organic or all-natural, it's great to have some budget-friendly options to help with that New Year's resolution of "adding exercise and trimming calories."
There are eight Individual Plates and two Lunch Combos with fewer than 550 calories per meal. A list of items under 550 calories and with zero trans fat is found on the web site.
In correspondence with San Jose Fitness, the company also explained that "The only trans-fats in our food are naturally occurring. All artificial trans-fats were removed to comply with NYC, CA, and other areas. You can view the nutritional content of all of our menu items [on the corporate website]."
The company also said: We do have some selections for the gluten-conscious. Our Allergen page on the website indicates which products have been "formulated without products containing gluten". The allergen page also shows shellfish, peanut, soy and other allergens.
Boston Market will also bring back poultry gravy formulated without products containing gluten to its restaurants by end of February 2011.
In the late fall of 2010, Boston Market introduced a new poultry gravy with 50% reduced sodium, and sodium levels in its fresh, all-natural chicken was reduced by 20%.
Alas for those with MSG sensitivity: Boston Market menu items do not contain MSG, however some of the products contain 'autolyzed yeast extract' which is similar.
