Memorial Day Boston Common

On thy grave the rain shall fall from the eyes of a mighty nation!" — Thomas William Parsons

This Memorial Day, please take a moment to remember our brave fallen heroes who have given their lives in service to the United States. The Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund (MMHF) plants thousands of flags on Boston Common in memory of our fallen Massachusetts service members each year for Memorial Day. They honor thousands of service men and women who have lost their lives in service to our country since World War I. These flags will be on display throughout Memorial Day weekend for your observance and reflection.

This year 37,000 flags will be placed bringing the number up quite a bit from a few years ago. A special ceremony to honor Massachusetts service members killed in Iraq and Afghanistan will be held on the Common on Thursday, May 22nd at 10am.

You can sponsor a flag for $5 by going to their website. If you would like to sponsor a flag in public memory of someone special, be sure to let them know. They will list the names of all loved ones remembered on their web page.

The Honor & Tribute: Memorial Day Concert will be held at 7:30pm-9pm on Monday, May 26 on the Boston Waterfront at Christopher Columbus Park and will feature the Boston Children's Chorus and the Metropolitan Wind Symphony Orchestra. The concert is free.
