Boston Celtics rumors about a Greg Oden signing are starting to make their way around the internet. According to a report from Saturday (Feb. 2), team president Danny Ainge met with Oden over the weekend. Ainge stated that, "It was just a chance to get to know Greg a little better. We meet with free agents all the time."
On the surface this seems like a way for Ainge to gauge the interest level that Oden would have signing with the Celtics, but it also seems like a way for the team to throw a wrench into the plans of the Miami Heat. Miami is another team that has expressed interest in signing Oden for next season, but they likely aren't going to be the final franchise to throw their hat in on this.
Oden is trying to make his way back to the NBA after some disappointing years with the Portland Trail Blazers. His time there was severely marred by injury, but it doesn't mean that he can't find a way to resurrect his NBA career. That cannot come until next season, though, so several teams are playing the long-term game here.
These Boston Celtics rumors do show that the team is trying to think outside of the box and considering a Greg Oden signing certainly doesn't hurt. He has the size to present an imposing force in the low post for several franchises and if his knees can hold up, he could be a bargain.
