All-Star forward Kevin Love spent this past weekend in Boston, which opened up even more speculation about the next destination of the Minnesota Timberwolves power forward. With rumors circulating that the Timberwolves are entertaining offers for a trade involving Love, the Celtics have become one of the teams with the pieces to offer for Love. A trade would also involve Love’s willingness to sign a long-term contract with whichever team he ends up with. A couple of Boston sports stars did their part in wooing Love.

One of those players was Celtics All-Star point guard and captain Rajon Rondo who just happened to be available to spend some time with the talented young power forward. The two met up Sunday at Fenway Park, where the two watched the Red Sox. At the game, Love sat next to his agent, Jeff Schwartz, who also happens to represent former Celtics star Paul Pierce. So if anyone knows about basketball life in Boston, it is Schwartz.

But Love seemed to have his own fascination with the team, which is a reason he came to town to check out the city. He was a childhood fan of Larry Bird and cited his favorite tapes growing up as a VHS copy of “Winning Basketball” with Bird and Red Auerbach. Boston seems to be his destiny, especially with a couple of stars also making their journeys from Minnesota to Boston. One was Kevin Garnett and the other is Red Sox DH “Big Papi” David Ortiz.

On Sunday night, Big Papi did his part in recruiting Love. After the Red Sox 4-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, he tweeted, “Yo @kevinlove if you need advice on moving from Minnesota to Boston just let me know #CityOfChamps.” If that wasn’t enough, Love reportedly spent some time with Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. Needless to say the entire Boston sports community is working on bringing another big name to the city of champions.

But before fans get too excited, Timberwolves president of basketball operations Flip Saunders made it clear on Monday that he expects Love to play in Minnesota this upcoming season. Love can opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent in 2015. It seems the Celtics only chance at obtaining Love would be if the Timberwolves trade him, which would make since for the team. Many sources say it is highly unlikely that Kevin Love would re-sign with the Timberwolves which is what makes the Celtics many draft picks over the next few years an interest.
