The Boston Bruins are going into the opening weekend of the 2013 NHL season at the very top of NHL.com's first batch of weekly power rankings, released on Jan. 18. Their first opponent of the season, the New York Rangers, sit in third place while their Martin Luther King, Jr. Day matinee opponents, the Winnipeg Jets, are not ranked.
Among other things, NHL.com's Dave Lozo praises the growth and development of Tyler Seguin, positing that he could even become a point-per-game player. Seguin had a very productive lockout tenure with EHC Biel of the Swiss top league, experience that he can hopefully parlay into Bruins games.
However, Seguin's linemate and alternate captain Patrice Bergeron cautions that he is still young and that the team isn't all about him.
"He knows what to expect, but he’s still 20, remember that," Bergeron said. "He’s a guy that still needs to learn and he can’t put too much pressure on himself. It’s about the whole team here and not just Seguin."
The power rankings also praise the team's defensive corps, plus Nathan Horton and the Vezina Trophy-winning possibilities of Tuukka Rask, who also performed very well abroad during the lockout.
