Boston Bruins beat the New York Islanders 4-2

Dougie Hamilton put up two assists, four different players had their first goals of the season and the Boston Bruins defeated the New York Islanders 4-2 on Jan. 25.

Shawn Thornton and Gregory Campbell, members of the fan-favorite Merlot Line, both scored their firsts of the 2013 NHL campaign. Thornton's goal, one of the two with Hamilton assists, opened the scoring for the evening. Campbell tied the game up again in the second period, paving the way for Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron to each add third-period goals that secured the win. Hamilton's second assist was on Bergeron's goal.

For the Islanders, Massachusetts native and team newcomer Keith Aucoin scored both of their goals.

At times, the Bruins looked somewhat sloppy and slow to act, giving away the puck and making other flubs. However, the energy seemed to flow back into the building and the team when Chara scored his goal, causing him to look relieved.

Milan Lucic fought Matt Carkner, another Islanders newcomer, and Daniel Paille and Dennis Seidenberg were both heavy hitters too.

Tyler Seguin looked snakebitten at times, searching for his first goal of the season and not ever finding it, even missing an empty net opportunity at the end of the game.

For his two-point night, though, Hamilton was named the first star of the game. The idea that he could go back to his junior team is, at this point, pretty improbable.

The Bruins will take the ice again on Jan. 28 in Raleigh, N.C. against the Carolina Hurricanes, who won 3-1 on Jan. 25.
