January 12, the Boston Breakers announced the signing of the Australian National Team's young star striker, Kyah Simon. Simon, 20, currently plays for Sydney FC of the Westfield W-League and was the first ever indigenous Australian (male or female) to score a goal in a World Cup.
Simon helped lead the Matildas into the knockout stage of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany and scored two goals in a 2-1 win over Norway which sent Australia to the quarterfinals. At 16, Simon debuted with her National Team against Hong Kong in August 2007. She scored her first goal with Australia in a win over Brazil in the 2008 Peace Cup and the winning penalty for Australia to win the 2010 Asian Cup. To date, Simon has 29 caps and seven goals in international play.
"Not only is Kyah a fantastic player, she is also a great person, role model and ambassador for women's football and I have no doubt that she will be a great asset to Boston Breakers on and off the field," said Simon's Manager Bill Drossos.
Simon has played in the Westfield W-League since its inception, debuting with the Central Coast Mariners in the inaugural 2008-09 campaign and the following season won the championship with Sydney. In the 2010-11 season, Simon earned many awards for helping Sydney finished first in the regular season. Not only did Simon win the Golden Boot for leading the league in scoring with 12 goals in 12 matches, she also won the Player of the Year, the Young Player of the Year, and the Players Player of the Year award.
"This Australian team is going to be a global force in the future and at the age of just 20 Kyah Simon will be a huge part of that, having already established herself in Tom Sermanni's line up," said Australian Football Examiner Chris Hockman.
"An independent film has been made about her along with fellow Matilda Lydia Williams and their journey as Indigenous Australians to the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup - the film is called No Apologies."

"I look forward to help bring success to the club and I can't wait to meet everyone at the club, including the fans, supporters, sponsors and of course my new team mates," said Simon.
"It has been a dream of mine since I started playing football to play overseas and in one of the best women's football competitions in the world and I am stoked that I will be living my dream with the Boston Breakers."
