Boston Breakers sign Australia's Tameka Butt

January 25, the Boston  Breakers announced the signing of Australian midfielder Tameka Butt, 20. The Breakers also recently signed Australian forward Kyah Simon, and the pair helped lead the Australian Women's National Team into the knockout stage of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany.

"It is fantastic that Tameka will also be joining the Boston Breakers," said Butt's manager, Bill Drossos. "It is yet another vote of confidence in the quality of Australian women's football, and there is no doubt that together with Kyah, Boston have now secured two of Australia's hottest emerging football talents."

Butt has 23 caps for the Matildas and has won two premierships and a Grand Final with the Brisbane Roar in the Westfield W-league, the Australian National Women's Football competition. Butt also featured for Australia when they won the AFC Women's Asian Cup in 2010.

Butt was a member of the 2007 AFC Women's Under-17 Asian Championship and captain of both the Australian Under-20's National Team from 2007-2009 and the Australian team that won the 2008 ASEAN Women's Cup Championship.

“We continue to build what we believe will be a strong squad for not only the upcoming season but also for future seasons," said Boston Breakers Associate General Manager Lee Billiard.

"We have added a lot of young quality, just like Tameka, to the squad with a good mix of experience to guide them. [Head coach] Lisa Cole has put a lot of work into building a new look Boston Breakers."
