Boston Breakers select 6 players in Supplemental Draft

On Feb. 7, the Boston Breakers selected six players in the 2013 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Supplemental Draft.

Three members of the 2012 Breakers squad return, including the club’s second leading scorer, forward Katie Schoepfer, midfielder Bianca D’Agostino, and forward Jessica Luscinski. The Breakers also added U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder Joanna Lohman, former Chicago Red Stars defender Lauren Alkek and forward Jasmyne Spencer.

Joanna Lohman (3rd overall)
Lohman has seven caps with the U.S. Women’s National Team and played professionally with the Washington Freedom and Philadelphia Independence of WPS. The 30-year-old Silver Spring, Md., native went on to play in 2012 at RCD Espanyol in Spain’s SuperLiga and with DC United in the USL W-League.

Katie Schoepfer (11th overall)
This is Schoepfer’s third season with the Breakers. In 2012, Schoepfer was the Breakers’ second leading scorer with seven goals and six assists and debuted for Boston during the 2011 WPS season. The 24-year-old Waterford, Conn., native has national team experience with the U.S. U-23 and U-17 teams. Schoepfer, who was an All-American at Penn State University, made her professional soccer debut in 2010 with Sky Blue FC in WPS.

Bianca D'Agostino (19th overall)
D’Agostino, a 24-year-old from Longmeadow, Mass., made 12 starts in 13 games for the Breakers in 2012. D’Agostino made her professional debut in 2011 with the Atlanta Beat in WPS although she was initially drafted by the Philadelphia Independence in 2011. D’Agostino starred at Wake Forest University, scoring seven goals and adding 18 assists in three seasons. D’Agostino played with the U-23 U.S. Women’s National Team in 2012 and won the Four Nations Tournament with the U23s in 2011.

Jasmyne Spencer (27th overall)
Spencer, 22, played in 2012 for Danish champions Brøndby and featured in two UEFA Champions League matches. The forward was initially drafted by the Philadelphia Independence in the 2012 WPS Draft, but later played for the New York Fury in the 2012 WPSL Elite league.

Lauren Alkek (35th overall)
Alkek, a defender, played in 12 games for Chicago Red Stars last year and for the Bay Area Breeze in the WPSL. The Victoria, Texas, native was named to the U.S. U-23 National Select Team in 2007.

Jessica Luscinski (43rd overall)
Lucscinski made eight starts in 13 games for the Breakers in 2012. The 22-year-old Bedford, N.H., native finished the season with one goal and one assist. Prior to coming to Boston, Luscinski was a two-time America East Striker of the Year at Boston University, where she scored 29 goals and added 24 assists.
