The concept is simple enough: everyone already loves dessert, why not turn dessert into a good cause? During the week of the fundraiser, purchasing a dessert at any of the participating locations will result in a donation to the Dana-Farber cancer institute. It may seem too good to be true, but since the organization was started, it has raised over $1.4 million dollars for breast cancer research. Sweet.
Participants include everyone from the multiple Finale locations citywide, to longtime local favorite Flour, to mobile cupcake delivery-service Cupcakory. For those whose interest in helping the worthy cause is stronger than their sweet tooth, the group also helps organize and promote volunteer-run bakesales in conjunction with the restaurant events.
With more participating restaurants than ever before, and hundreds of talented local chefs turning out their most delectable desserts for the cause, giving has never been easier.
I suppose you could call that the icing on the cake.
Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer will be held May 2nd-May 8th at participating bakeries, cafes, and restaurants citywide. For more details on the event, including a list of all participating restaurants, please visit the Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer website.
