Boston a hot job market in 2011 says Monster.com

Boston wiill be among the top three hot job markets in 2011, according to Maynard, MA based employment search website Monster.com.  IT and the health care industries are offering the “hottest jobs" says Monster.com and Boston is in the forefront of both industries

2011 will be a better year for some job seekers says Monster.com

Times have been tough for job seekers for the past several years, with national unemployment rates hovering close to 10 percent. However, Monster says that things are about to change, at least for some Americans looking for work.

"Power has eased a bit from the employer to the seeker. Now is the time for qualified candidates to make their move into a better and more challenging role, said Monster.com in press materials.

"This will be quite a luxury for some seekers who have struggled to seek more inspiring work in the past year or two. For them, 2011 will become ‘their’ year for surpassing the status quo, propelling their career a step or two forward.”

Will 2011 offer more job opportunities for Boston and other U.S. cities?

Apparently the people at Monster.com think so. “These findings very clearly point to a growing war for talent where certain industries are struck harder than others to find qualified candidate”, said Monster.com in press materials.

These are the top ten 2011 hot jobs markets in the U.S. according to Monster.com

1. Washington, DC
2. San Francisco, CA
3. Boston, MA
4. Baltimore, MD
5. Seattle, WA
6. Minneapolis, MN
7. Cleveland, OH
8. Tampa, FL
9. Dallas, TX
10. Kansas City, MS

IT and Health care industries are best bets for jobs in 2011 and beyond says Monster.com

As the U.S. economy recovers, “communities across the nation are starting to spend more on things like IT infrastructure and other areas where they’d previously avoided spending on,” said Monster.com.

Additionally, a new "skills shortage in health care" may also mean more opportunities for job seekers, especially since baby boomers are beginning to retire, according to Monster.com

Monster.com predicts a “war for talent” in job searches in specific industries

Monster also claims that “specific occupations” have” bubbled up” in IT and health care, especially in certain cities. For example,

  • IT positions like computer systems analysts and web developers are more in demand in Washington DC, Boston and San Francisco
  • Other hot jobs include retail, particularly in Kansas City and Cleveland
  • Physical/occupational therapists are other hot jobs, particularly in Tampa.

“These findings very clearly point to a growing war for talent where certain industries are struck harder than others to find qualified candidates,” said Charles Purdy, career expert for Monster.com, in the press release.

MA unemployment rate below national average but state still needs more jobs

The MA unemployment rate was at 8.2 percent in December 2010, below the national unemployment rate of 9.4 percent. However, the picture in MA is not entirely rosy. MA is still in need of jobs. MA December job estimates showed a decrease of about 2,100 jobs, with most of the jobs lost in the Lesire and Hospitality industries, according to figures from MA state government.

Starting this year your child (or children) cannot be denied coverage simply because they have a pre-existing health condition. If you don't have insurance for you and your children search "Wise Health Insurance" online they are the best.

I wish I lived closer to MA then I could commute. I need a better paying job. These Maine taxes are killing us

    MA has high taxes, too!

Now I know where everyone needs to move to so they can get a job.

  • The only problem with sites like Monster and Career builder is...

There is a HUGE disparity between job listings, and actual job hirings. During recessions, and times of slow growth, companies will list positions just so they can collect tons of resumes for the future, but they have no intention of filling the 'ghost' position.
