Boston 4th of July celebrations - July 3rd concert with the Boston Pops

July 4th Celebrations
July 4th Celebrations

The Boston Pops play on a national stage amidst thousands of fans for Boston’s 4th of July celebrations every year. The event is grand – with fireworks, celebrities (this year it’s country singer Toby Keith), and hundreds of boats parked on the Charles River checking out the entire show. It’s all part of the fanfare. But sometimes fanfare is overrated; especially if you’re not a fan of huge crowds.

This Saturday, July 3rd, 2010 the Boston Pops will prepare for their big July 4th bash with a practice show, open to the public, on Boston’s Esplanade in the DCR Hatch Shell. The grassy area in front of the Hatch Shell, known as the “Oval” will open at 4:00pm on Saturday, July 3, 2010 – and the show will begin at 8:30.

Although there are no fireworks in the mix for Saturday – there are also far fewer people and the experience of listening to the Pops along the Charles will be a bit more intimate. So bring a lawn chair, a beach blanket, your family or a few friends and have a great evening listening to some talented musicians and enjoying the glorious summer weather the day before the 4th of July!

Also, here’s a list of things you CAN NOT bring into the Oval on either day/night: “alcoholic beverages, glass containers, tarps larger than 8’ X 10’ and sharp objects (e.g., knitting needles, metal tent spikes, can openers, metal utensils) will not be allowed and will be confiscated. No pets are allowed unless they are service animals.”
