Since Tuesday’s contest and continuing through today’s date of April 5, the son of former congressional candidate Curtis Bostic has actively tweeted messages about runoff winner Mark Sanford.
However, Daniel Bostic’s tweets aren’t supportive of the GOP nominee for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District.
“I will not be supporting @MarkSanford in any way,” he posted early-morning April 3. “The State of SC can do better.”
The messages don’t result from bitterness over his father’s loss, but from moral objection to Sanford’s character, he states.
“It’s not about being a sore loser, it’s about my faith coming first,” he posted, averring his Christian views.
“I cannot vote for a man who lacks character. Any of the other candidates I would’ve supported, but not him.”
In 2009 while still governor, Sanford left the state without proper notice to engage in an extramarital affair in Argentina. After facing 37 ethics charges, including for use of state funds to pay for those and other unauthorized travels, he paid $74,000 in fines.
Now divorced, Sanford has been open about his error, asking voters for forgiveness in his campaign advertisements.
On his April 2 election party, however, he was joined by his Argentine girlfriend.
Bostic’s disapproving sentiment has been joined by many, too, however.
“Am I the only one who’s put off by Mark Sanford thanking his God and his mistress in the same breath?” Cindi Rose Scoppe offered, referring to Sanford’s runoff victory speech.
“I will not compromise my values & beliefs supporting a candidate based on Party Assoc,” tweeted another using the name Painter Marlow.

A model and actor, Bostic has appeared on numerous television shows, including the Charleston-filmed “Army Wives.”
After placing second in the March 26 primary, Bostic’s father took 43.4 percent of the vote in the April 2 runoff.
Sanford faces Democratic candidate Elizabeth Colbert-Busch on May 7.
Recent polls show Colbert-Busch to have a slight lead over Sanford.
