Borzoi results from Westminster

GCh

Despite the fact that an Afghan won the Hound Group there is much to report from the program of the Westminster Kennel Club, yesterday. This year, complete coverage of the classes was available on line. Beginning about 1:30 on Monday Judge Douglas Johnson and his pair of stewards began the evaluation of almost 30 Borzoi entered.

As is common at any dog show there were some absentees. In fact at least seven entered Borzoi did not attend this year's show. This can happen for a variety of reasons; travel failures, bitches in heat, minor illnesses of dog, handler or owner but it's always a disappointment when these lovely dogs are unable to attend a televised event.

Overall, Westminster Kennel Club reported higher than ever registrations but for the Borzoi breed this year's entries were fewer than I expected. For example, four of the top ten Borzoi according to Canine Chronicle (CC) were not entered.

Best of Breed went to Grand Champion (GCh) Mejenkir Bookstor Glamour Girl who is one of the top ten Borzoi of 2012 CC, owned by Karen Staudt-Cartabona and Karen Spey. Best of Opposite Sex went to Grand Champion Raynbos Run For the Roses, the number two Borzoi 2012 CC, owned by Roni and Jennifer Zucker.

The class winners were Roscommon Ferlinka Zulu Whiskey (dog) and Maskova's Silver Bells (bitch) with the bitch going Best of Winners. Reserve winners were Majenkir Regalus (dog) and Majenkir Fantastic Katarina (bitch). What a great day for Majenkir Kennels!

Last year's Breed Winners, GCh Greyhaven This Rough Magic Senior Courser (SC) (dog), the number 4 CC Borzoi, and GCh Raynbos Regal Rose (bitch) competed this year as well. A local lovely, GCh Gladkii Veter Sapphire, the number 16 dog 2012 CC, was shown by her breeder, owner and handler, Roy Silguero.
