Meet Lori Cohn and be inspired by her story.
In Lori’s words, “Charmed Design was born out of a life changing event. It began as something constructive and positive to do while I recovered from a sudden life-threatening illness.
Three years ago, I woke up in an intensive care unit with no knowledge of how I got there. I learned that I had become ill from an infection that was a side effect of a routine tooth extraction. I came very close to dying, and had several life saving surgeries. For the following two years I suffered from this chronic infection, losing parts of my jaw and numerous teeth. The doctors were finally able to identify the infection and I was treated with long-term medication and I am lucky to be here today.”
She talked about acceptance, “Initially, I had a very difficult time trying to cope with the loss of my life as I knew it. But, eventually, I realized I had to find a way to fight the depression and loss. This is when I began to design jewelry as a way to stay positive and constructive. What began as therapy slowly grew into a new career.
I have always been creative and interested in design, even during my career as a lawyer. I am one of those people that see something and decide to learn how to do it. In the past, I made tile mosaics, decorating furniture, mirrors, etc. In the case of my jewelry, I saw a bracelet on a friend unlike anything I’d seen before and set out to create something like it.”
Lori had family support, “My father was incredibly supportive of my career change. I had worked with him as an associate in his law firm for many years and I did not expect his reaction. But, he is happy that I have found a passion and a career that challenges me and makes me happy.”
