The day of gifts and merriment is swiftly drawing to a close across the North American continent, but with the long denouement of 2013 comes the beginning of the measure of time that really matters: The Born of the Gods rumor season. We got a heckova Christmas present in the form of Kiora, but all eyes are now on the cinematic beginning to any set countdown nowadays: The online trailer. Gatecrash's trailer dropped less than a week after Christmas 2012, so don't be surprised if the Born of the Gods trailer hits YouTube in a mere few days. Here are some possibilities for the latest animated adventure:
- Either a minor god or Kiora will narrate. Traditionally a planeswalker is featured in the voiceover for set trailers, but that tradition is occasionally broken - indeed, Heliod was the speaker in the Theros trailer. So although it'd be compelling to find out what Kiora is actually doing on Theros and to see the divine conflict from an outsider's point of view, there's probably a stable of voice actors who are just itching to try out their hammiest god voice, and we're also likely to hear from Xenagos or indeed someone more mysterious and gravitas-having like Kruphix or Phenax.
- Advancing the story. By the events of Born of the Gods, Xenagos has ascended to Nyx - expect to hear just how he managed to do that. In addition, given the minor legendary subtheme in the block, there's quite the ensemble of characters, so maybe we'll see the plans of a secondary, mortal, villain or one of the heroes' friends and supporters.
- The art previews. Here's calling our first glance at one of the minor gods besides Iroas or Xenagos. Personally crossing my fingers for Athreos.
