In a rare glitch on the technical side of magicthegathering.com, the Born of the Gods release notes, intended for publication only after the set was fully spoiled, have been put up early by accident. Since the Leonin is out of the bag already, they are being left up, and with them, forty-odd never-before-seen cards from the set. One of my favorites of the new cards is a white rare creature with bestow, which is a little bit of a Nighthowler mirror, and that has the potential to get very big:
Eidolon of Countless Battles 1WW
Enchantment Creature - Spirit (Rare)
Eidolon of Countless Battles and enchanted creature get +1/+1 for each creature you control and +1/+1 for each Aura you control.
Let's do the math. Say you're in mono-white heroic in Theros block Limited. You go turn one Favored Hoplite, turn two Phalanx Leader, turn three Gift of Immortality on the Leader, turn four Eidolon of Countless Battles on the Leader. That's 10 power spread across your two creatures - one of which is very, very well protected - and when you lose your Phalanx Leader, guess what? It comes back, with the Gift at the end of the turn, and so does the Eidolon! That's a hell of an ideal board state you can set up. But divine luck and righteous white weenie beatdowns in Sealed aside, the Eidolon is truly fun at the casual table. I know a ton of Voltron-style EDH decks will want to take advantage of it, and there are definitely some wacky combos with Flicker and Bramble Elemental to be had.
What do you think of this Nyxian creature that embodies an army? Let me know in the comments.
