According to a post Jan. 10, 2014 on, the buy a box promo for Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set "Born of the Gods" will be Nefarious Burn. This latest "Born of the Gods" spoiler is a fiery hot burn spell that can deal with a troublesome creature or planeswalker your adversary may control.

Nefarious Bun deals 5 points of damage to target creature or planeswalker. If it's your turn, Scry 2.

Magma Jet and Lightning Strike just don't have the reach that Nefarious Burn provides, allowing red players to have an elegant way of dealing with Advent of the Wurm tokens or any other nasty beefy threat. While Nefarious Burn offers the convenience of being played on your opponent's turn, you'll gain an advantage by casting it during your own.

One significant drawback to this burn spell is that like Mizzium Mortars Nefarious Burn cannot target your opponent. That may play a significant role determining whether Nefarious Burn is played in main decks or ultimately ends up being relegated to sideboards to come in against the appropriate matches.

Buy a box promos generally see competitive play, with Slyvan Caryatid being the latest example. If you want to ensure your copy use the Wizards Store Locator to find an event near you. You'll have to hurry though: Supplies are limited.
