''It gets boring to have to practice every day." Williams said, "I was like, 'I don't want to practice anymore. I want to play a match.''

In addition to singles, top seed Williams will also play doubles with her sister Venus Williams. Serena Williams has not played in Dubai since 2009 and has yet to claim the championship trophy. The strong field consists of three former champions in Caroline Wozniacki (2011), Agnieszka Radwanska (2012) and Petra Kvitova (2013).

Tough opposition will also come from WTA Most Improved Player of the Year Simona Halep, recent winner at the Qatar Open and Ana Ivanovic who won the Auckland tournament in January and then knocked out Serena at the Australian Open.

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships starts February 17 to the championship on February 22.
