'Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel' channels 'Breaking Bad' in new trailer

Is there a connection between Handsome Jack and Heisenberg? That’s the impression that one gets when watching the new “Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel” trailer to help tease the upcoming PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

In the “Handsome Jack Teaser,” the titular character reads the poem “Ozymandias” by Percy Bysshe Shelly in a style and manner that only Handsome Jack can. Fans of the AMC TV series “Breaking Bad” may remember a final season promotion featuring Bryan Cranston, who played Walter White, reading the same poem in a much more ominous way.

So how does this connect “Breaking Bad” with “Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel?” Well, in a way, the game is meant to be Handsome Jack’s descent into being a bad guy much the same way the five seasons of the TV show chronicled White’s turn to the dark side.

There’s also another interesting connection and that’s with the meaning of the poem itself. Basically, it’s that men and the empires they built are destined to fall eventually. While, the “Pre-Sequel” is Handsome Jack’s rise to power, “Borderlands 2” is definitely the fall, not to mention that Jack is a pretentious guy.

In “The Pre-Sequel,” Jack is joined by some familiar faces in the Borderlands universe including Athena the Gladiator from DLC of the first game, Wilhelm the Enforcer who was a boss in the second and Nisha the Lawbringer who was a sheriff in the second title. Even Claptrap the Fragtrap is playable.

Together they will shoot and loot across the moon of Pandora to assist in the rise of the Hyperion Corporation and players will be able to witness Jack's transformation into a snarky tyrant.

Some of the new weaponry includes lasers and freeze ray weapons plus new moves thanks to the addition of jetpacks and new vehicles.

Development for “Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel” is being handled by 2K Australia with Gearbox Software overseeing the project.
